Drilling guide: Ø mm bit sizes - important!
After mounting the bamboo culm halves in a rig, with the gussets placed in position and secured with a screw clamp, drill through all layers with a Ø3 mm bit for metal to mark the position. Then drill all elements for the truss according to the cross section. Chose a wood screw Ø5x50 mm and note the importance of changing the bit size:
Ø5, 4, 3 mm. This will avoid cracking the bamboo and makes the lower bamboo act as a nut. Finally let the protruding screw enter a small cube of wood to work as an anvil and allow for powerful tightening.
